In reply to Bob. Hi Bob No images came with the information we received so we had no option but to feature a generic image. We did state at the foot of the article that "NB this is a generic image and does not represent what the water park in Wynnum may look like." Most of the generic images available were of much larger waterparks.

Whoever posted this article should be ashamed of publishing it with a masthead photo that bears no resemblance of what is actually planned to happen at the Wynnum foreshore.

@David Carter – well said. As a somewhat new resident to the area, Brisbane doesn’t seem to know what asset it has in the Wynnum-Manly area. Have they never thought of the tourism potential (similar to what St Kilda is to Melbourne as you say)?

I would hope that in the redevelopment of the foreshore that consideration for teenagers and young adults is addressed as there are currently no facilities in the area for this age group. I recently read an article in the local paper where a resident was complaining about teenagers jumping into the water off the jetty area in the marina. Since when did a bit of harmless fun create such a negative media response. Something age appropriate for this demographic is clearly lacking in our community.

Whilst the news of a new aqua park (actually just an enlarged version of the existing one) at Wynnum is welcome, when will the bayside waterfront be redeveloped into a truly world-class area such as is the case in Cairns, Townsville and Redcliffe? In this regard our northern cities are way ahead of us. I agree with the concern about parking. A new masterplan for the entire waterfront and shopping precinct is urgently needed. This could include a tree-lined boulevard of shops, restaurants and apartments linking the train station to the waterfront as well as providing for more cafes and restaurants along the Esplanade, such as is the case in St Kilda in Melbourne. A radical solution for the future is needed which overturns the existing out-dated view of reinforcing the existing pattern of development of a Wynnum CBD disconnected from the waterfront This needs to happen now before it is too late. (Look at what happened to the Wynnum Central School!)

Your lucky you have a great park & to get an upgrade.
I agree the parking may be a problem but at least you have this wonderful foreshore & area.
Unlike the Redlands. We are surrounded by beautiful foreshores & have parks but it’s a disgrace that we don’t have anything really appealing here.
We have to leave our Shire to take our families to other great areas. We’ve been asking for a water play park for years & they say it’s not in their budget.
Redlands council should maybe take a leaf out of Brisbane city council.
We wasted $500,000 on the most embarrassing little park in Bloomfield st , Cleveland and you are spending $600,000 to upgrade.
It’s a joke. So I’ll look to visiting your park now & in the future.

I agree with the concerns about parking – might need to have a free bus running from the shopping centre so people have to pass through the Wynnum Central business area to and from the waterpark. Create highrise or undergriund parking in the shopping area

What about the parking for this great idea? Is anything planned to include a parking area as there is enough problems there already!!
